GUYS. WORKING OUT IS SO HARD WHEN IT IS COLD AND THERE ARE COOKIES AND BREAD BAKING IN YOUR OVEN AND YOUR ASTHMA IS TERRIBLE AND IT'S SLEETING OUTSIDE AND YOU JUST WANT TO NAPPPP But actually, working out has been really difficult for me this winter. it's been hard for me to get up the energy to work out every day: every other day seems to basically be my limit, and sometimes I can work out two days in a row, which puts me at working out 4 times a week and sometimes five. I think it's because it's cold and I'm out of shape so my asthma is bad, and so working out doesn't feel particularly rewarding just yet. I need to step it up. For our readZ0rZ!!1lol that don't know what our workout plan looks like, we are focusing on cardio and strength gains over winter break, culminating in a timed mile on February first. I think a timed mile will be an effective and simple way to gauge how diligently people have been training, even though running a mile has very little to do with Ultimate, skill or strength-wise. After February first, we will turn our focus to speed, agility, and strength. Here is our workout schedule up to February first: https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=noiort9a9t0ehgbdnuo2ug5k1k%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=America/New_York Also, watch this video: "they are useful, but hahaha wind pants. we can get a seniors-only time machine and travel back to fifth-grade gym, too..."
I hated fifth grade gym and am definitely not going back. Therefore, figure 1: Yeeeaaaaahhhh Alex. (Courtesy the Associated Press and Charleston Daily Mail) By Kara Stoever Winter break has turned me into an old person in one way in particular: I now watch Jeopardy every day. Alex Trebek is my new BFFAEAEAE. (If anyone wants to watch back at Swat...) Anyway -- last night, there was a category called Camelot. There was also a category in the second round called JFK's Camelot (which totally went over my head but now I know is a reference to his presidency as a "brief, shining moment"! Who. Knew.) Anyway^2, Ye Olde Mythical Brain went to sleep and dreamed a dream (in time gone byyyyyyy) about a mythical ultimate tournament!!!!111!!1 We were invited because the Warmother is a valiant, mythical, Camelot-like, etc. mascot. We weren't at the tournament yet, though, I was just looking at the tournament brochure. It was beautiful. There were a bunch of other good teams (all mythically themed), but I only remember one: the Unicorns, from the group Anonymous. I wondered in Ye Olde Dream World how we'd do against a bunch of politically active computer hackers ... and then moved on because I had to go walk down a street, be confronted by a canvasser, agree to give 50 cents (apparently dream me is stingy!) but then change my mind and give $4 but forget my debit card number blahblahblah. End of dream. (For the sake of dream accuracy, I have to say that I don't quite remember if they were the Unicorns for sure. I've also been watching Blue Planet/Planet Earth/Wild Russia excessively, so I feel like they might have been the Narwhals. I forget.) Moral of the dream: instead of going to Centex, let's organize a Tournament of Mythical Creatures! I'll get Anonymous to come.
